Elsewhere/Otherwise is a dance theatre performance, featuring original choreography and sound co-created by Kristen Yeung and Sadie Leigh. This work is a vehicle and a vessel for processing the deeply personal and universally shared experience of moving from one place to another.
Kristen moved to Seattle in August 2020 from Baltimore, MD and Sadie arrived in Portland in June 2022 from Washington, DC. We both left behind our families, a beloved community of friends and artists, and the only homes we’d ever known. Our bittersweet relocations propelled us toward the challenge and excitement of newness, and toward romance and partnership with people who wanted to be out west.
There were four performances of Elsewhere/Otherwise – for one night only in both our old homes and new – serving as a bridge connecting our east coast roots to our west coast bloom. We invited viewers to join us, asking east coast audiences to see us off and west coast audiences to welcome us in.

“this again” is a dance-theater exploration of choices and chance, blunders big and small, and what sticks when things just don’t go as you had planned. With movement and text sourced from the cast’s personal experiences, this piece examines the theme of “If/Then” regretfully playing back, nervously peering forward, and stumblingly navigating the in between.

"Luckily, I did" listens to the stories of choreographer Kristen Yeung's immigrant family across generations and examines how they have shaped her as an American-born Chinese-American who straddles two cultures. This deeply personal solo explores themes of physical labor, barriers, community, and the significance of luck & good fortune in Chinese culture. How can you make luck, not for yourself, but for future generations?

Lynne Price and Kristen Yeung create another chapter in the world of their 2016 duet "If you'd rather leave." In "Here is my home," they contemplate the relationship between architecture, scale, and the body while exploring the place-making process, emotional space, and anatomy of "home." What constitutes a home and how do we make one? Can a home exist within yourself? Is home always a safe space?

"If you'd rather leave" draws from personal experiences while navigating disparities of needs across relationships. No matter the type of relationship, as we negotiate the effects of being pushed and pulled, affection and frustration, distances and changes, desperation and endurance, we are left with a choice: we can stay or we can leave.

An exploration of interpersonal dynamics of clinginess, power, and space. What do we do when we are dependent on our partner, someone we share space and time with, and they are gone? In this work, we bring the legs of the theater onto the stage, manipulating and splitting the space into different places and times. "Bound to" is a playground for changing space, obfuscation, hierarchy and power. What do we allow others to see, what do we hide, and when are we hidden?
